David Furphy
qualified as a teacher in 1966, subsequently graduated in
Mathematics and Computing with the Open University and completed a
Masters Degree at The Victoria University of Manchester. He has taught for over thirty years both in
state and independent sectors. He has been a Head of Faculty, Head
of Year, Head of House, Head of Middle School and Deputy Head
Teacher prior to becoming the Principal at Macclesfield Tutorial
College.

The Deputy Principal

J.M.Richardson BA(Hons), PGCE
|
Janet Richardson is responsible
for office and financial management. She has an Honours Degree in
French from Sheffield University, and a Post Graduate Certificate in
Education from the University of Durham. From there she went on
to teach in grammar and comprehensive
schools. She teaches French to all ages, and
is experienced in Language curriculum development. Janet is an
enthusiastic teacher and as a personal tutor takes a great interest
in all our students.

Head of Business Studies

T.Boffey FCMA, MBA (Cranfield) |
Tony Boffey is Head of Business Studies. He is
a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and an
MBA (Cranfield). He has thirty years practical experience in the UK
and overseas and has been teaching since 1993. Accounting and Business Studies are offered to GCSE and
Advanced Level GCE. Various professional qualifications are also
offered.

Languages

Mrs C.Dennis BA(Hons)
| Mrs Claudette Dennis, Head of Languages, is
French and has first class BA Honours Degree in French and English.
She has experience of teaching in both grammar and comprehensive
schools. The languages Department offers not only the usual modern
languages: French, German and Spanish but also Portuguese, Greek,
Italian, Chinese and Japanese. Languages are
taught to GCSE level and GCE Advance Levels as well as to Cambridge
Certificate and RSA examinations. The strength of this department is
shown by the fact that several members of this department are
teaching on behalf of MTC in various businesses in the North
West.

| Physical Sciences |
The college opened its laboratory in
1995. Combined Science is taught to GCSE level and Physics, Chemistry and
Biology are taught to GCSE and GCE Advanced Level. The tutors in
this area are very experienced, having taught in a variety of
schools and universities.
